MCC Transport, based in Singapore as a ship owner and operator of intra-Asia container services, was initiated by Maersk Line after the acquisition of the Danish liner company EAC in 1993. Originally named the East Asiatic Company, the EAC had its roots in trading with commodities out of Thailand and established the liner service in 1988. The “new” Maersk Line entity really took off in 2000 when operations were moved from the port of Singapore to APM Terminals’ facility in Tanjong Pelepas, Malaysia.
